BUOYS FOR STORAGE OF MEASURING EQUIPMENT

Maritim Consult has delivered buoys that can store measuring equipment in connection with a large tunnel project in a Norwegian fiord. The equipment is expensive and difficult to move, so it is important that it is placed on a stable platform.
The fiord is 500-600 metre deep, which makes it impossible to erect a bridge. The alternative is an immersed tunnel; but before work starts, the project managers need accurate data on e.g. currents, wave heights and wildlife.
Adapted standard buoy
The equipment for the measurements is extremely expensive and must be on the water 24/7. The equipment must therefore be stored safely. Maritim Consult provided consulting services on the options and found the most optimum solution together with the customer.
"We have used the standard Trident-2600 buoy and adapted it to the job. More specifically, that means that we have added an extra hatch to make it easier to put the equipment inside the tower," says Rasmus Bohsen, Sales Manager at Maritim Consult.
ATON protects the equipment
At the same time as the buoys store the measuring equipment, they also serve as ATONs that prevent collision with ships.
This is a key function, since the equipment is placed both inside the buoys and in the water beneath them.
The buoys are equipped with an AIS system so that they are visible in the water and can be seen on electronic nautical charts. This makes it easy for ships to navigate around them.
Quick delivery prevents project delays
Optimum cooperation between Maritim Consult and the customer resulted in quick delivery and commissioning of measurements on time, so that the customer was able to meet its deadlines. The buoys were delivered in six weeks instead of 8-10 weeks, which is the standard.
